Best Tattoo Kit for Beginners
Man, I was mighty peeved at this tattoo kit I purchased back in the summer of 2011. Every time I think about that darn thing, my blood boils and I can’t help but feel like ranting about that useless junk. I hated the power supply that came with it because the thing went wonky within a month of use, motor that stopped working, lousy foot pedal, and a myriad of other irritating problems.
Yes, finding the best tattoo kit for beginners can be tough, but don’t get discouraged. There are some really good quality tattoo starter kits out there on the market such as the one you see down here.

Pirate Face Grinder Tattoo Kit with Practice Skin
Now this is what I call a 4 ½ stars out of 5 tattoo kit for beginners! This deluxe package is not just for beginners mind you; even pro tattooists would get a kick out of it. However, I’m reluctant to give it a full 5 star rating because one, the quality of the ink is average at best, two, the practice skin isn’t thick enough plus you don’t get enough of it!
Still, I can’t moan too much because the sheer number of items bundled in the kit is absolutely insane! And the overall quality is simply fantastic for the money. Here are the items included in my kit. I’ll separate them into 3 groups.
Group 1: Machines, Power Supply, and Casing
4 Tattoo machines (10 wrap coils) with 4 Barrels/Grips, 1 Power Supply, 1 Carrying Case
The machine works extremely well provided you get them tuned properly. They run smoothly and they got some serious juice which I thought was pretty amazing because the cost of the whole kit is relatively low. The machines are light and easy on the hands. The grips are real comfy.
The power supply is decent enough without all the bells and whistles. It runs smooth and powers the machines without any problems. The screen display is LCD and easy to read while you’re working on your craft.
Clip cord plus foot pedal are included of course and they are pretty basic. I got nothing bad to say about them, and nothing to gush about either. Someday you might want to replace the power supply with one that has more juice and handy features, like being able to hook up two machines at once. I already have such power supply so I’m keeping this one just in case I need a backup.
Am I satisfied with items in Group 1? Hell, yes!
Group 2: Needles and Inks
50 Sterile Needles (Shaders/Liners/Magnums) and they come in a variety of sizes (10 variety in total), 15 bottles of Tattoo Ink – each bottle contains ½ oz ink and 15 different bottles = 15 different colors
You get a decent variety of ink colors so that’s a plus. As mentioned, the inks are just average. The tones are too light for my taste. Plenty of needles to experiment with in various sizes and they are pretty good quality.
Am I satisfied with items in Group 2? Yes, they are alright.
Group 3: Accessories and Miscellaneous
100 Ink Cups, 27 Disposable Tips, 8 Stainless Steel Tips, 1 Adjustable Tool Kit, 1 pair of Disposable Gloves, 1 sheet of Transfer Stencil Paper, 1 DVD containing generic looking tattoo designs, 1 Tattoo Instructional Book that’s 240 pages long (this book is brilliant!), 1 sheet of Tattoo Practice Skin???
What the heck eh…Yeah, sure this is a very decent tattoo kit with practice skin, but it comes with only one paltry sheet of skin? COME ON! Man, that sucks and it’s one of the reasons why I can’t give this kit a perfect rating.
Instead of offering 100 ink cups, the manufacturer should’ve just reduce them to say, 50 cups and then add more thicker, better quality practice skins. Perhaps a total of 10 skins would’ve been awesome. The best tattoo kit for beginners should have more practice skins, don’t you think so? I already have way too many ink cups anyway.
Am I satisfied with items in Group 3? Sure, except for the practice skin and the DVD thingy.
All told, the overall rating I would give for this kit is 4 ½ stars.
