Discover Zack Barker: A Young Tattooist Extraordinaire!
“I’m going to do a real kick-ass tattoo!”
With those words coming out of his mouth, Zack Barker created a magnificent tattoo design, one that would rock the tattoo industry with its longevity and appeal. Zack used to be a misfit in high school. According to Zack, he was a high school student “you wouldn’t look at twice” – until that fateful day when, as he was working in his high school’s art class, he discovered a tattoo magazine belonging to his classmate. It wasn’t until later that day that Zack discovered the ramifications of this event.
He found that he had been gifted with some attributes of a talented tattoo artist – he could create amazing tattoo art and had the confidence to handle tattoo needles like a seasoned professional! Zack customized a couple of tattoo machines for himself and decided to use his new-found skills to get money for his Aunt Becca and Uncle Jose, who had reared him since childhood. He went to a tattooing competition calling himself “Tattooing Fanatic” and beat other contestants to win the first prize. However, when the winner of the second prize came to see him later and challenged him to enter another competition, he simply ignored the guy’s challenge. When asked why, he responded that he wasn’t interested in participating in another tattoo art competition.
A few days later, misfortune struck. Zack returned home to find that his customized tattoo machines had been stolen. Zack tracked down the thief only to discover it was the same guy who challenged him earlier. At that moment, Zack made a vow to use his skills as a talented tattooist to go professional. He refused to enter any more tattooing competitions. And so a young but highly skilled tattoo artist was born.
Since then, Zack, or Tattooing Fanatic as he is known has gone through many ups and downs in his personal life. His body of work is extensive, with many of his unique designs becoming some of the most popular tattoo creations today. He’s even created highly detailed tattoos of famous comic villains such as Doctor Octopus, who has four mechanical arms grafted to him, the Green Goblin with his exploding pumpkin bombs; Kraven; a hunter who chose Spider-Man as his prey and Venom, an alien creature that Spider-Man once wore as his costume only to have it try and take him over. The client who paid Zack to produce the aforementioned tattoo art is a massive fan of Spider-Man!
Anyway, Zack’s personal life has also had its ups and downs. His first true love, Sheena Meyers was tragically killed in a biking accident. He once went out with his tattoo coworker, only to break it up because of her amoral personality. And yet through it all, he had a roller-coaster relationship with Brenda Bolton Jones, one that finally concluded with their happy marriage, complete with a wedding dress designed by Chad Montoya, one of Zack’s tattooing buddies.
Zack tattooing skills themselves have even gone through changes. He did a lot of ultra-realistic tattoo portraits for a short period of time and once had a protégé helped customize his tattoo equipment and could emulate Zack’s distinctive style. Zack’s tattooing tools have been upgraded throughout the years. And for a brief time, Zack had the most sought after tattoo machine gun, with a price tag that’s close to $500!
Yet, some things have almost never changed. He’s still a tattooist for a mid-sized tattoo store in Brookyln, New York. Aunt Becca and Uncle Jose are always there for him. And while he’s graduated from high school several years ago, he’s not interested in going to college. His career as a tattoo artist is currently earning him a pretty sizeable amount of cash each month.
With many potential clients plus regular customers, Zack continues to be a big name in New York. Why do people enjoy getting tattoos from him so much? Perhaps it’s because, despite all his tattooing skills, he’s still humble and respectful to people.
