Tattoo Aftercare Information
Taking proper care for your new tattoo is extremely important, yet sadly, many are ignorant about it. Those who are planning on getting a tattoo for the first time tend to be very enthusiastic when it comes to finding tattoo designs. They would aggressively look through numerous books, magazines, and websites in search of ideas and inspiration for that perfect tattoo art.
Well, there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s perfectly normal to be super excited about finding your dream tattoo design. However, you should also take the time to seek out thorough tattoo aftercare information and tips in order to avoid any problems that might arise post tattooing such as wound infection.
You have to understand that fresh tattoos are basically open wounds and if you fail to take proper care of them, the wounds are very much likely to get infected. Obviously you’ll want your new tattoo to heal up nicely and look great. So make sure the tattoo is kept cleaned so that infection doesn’t come around and mess things up.
Do keep in mind that a tattoo’s healing stages vary from one person to another, but in terms of healing process, there’s a basic pattern to it. Now, after getting tattooed, the wound will be bandaged by the tattooist to prevent contact from outside elements which can lead to infection. After about 2 or 3 hours, you can go ahead and take off the bandage. Within the first 24 hours, a bit of bleeding may occur and that’s fine. Like I said earlier, it’s pretty much an open wound so minor bleeding is expected.
Remember to wash your hands thoroughly before you take the bandage off! Use anti-bacterial soap and warm water to wash your hands clean, and don’t forget to scrub between the fingers as well as under the fingernails. Once you’ve cleaned your hands, fully dry them with a clean, fresh paper towel.
Now you can proceed to remove the bandage, but do it super, slowly. Don’t go rushing into it by simply ripping off the bandage as this can cause the tattoo to bleed once more. Besides, it’ll ruin the look of your new tattoo! Grab the anti-bacterial soap you used to wash your hands, and now use it to clean your tattoo.
Clean it in an extremely gentle manner using soap, water, and your hands – that’s all. Forget about using a sponge or cloth. Also, when washing the tattoo, make sure you pat it instead of scrubbing and rubbing it with your fingers. Afterwards, pat dry the tattoo using a clean paper towel, and then allow it to air dry for approximately twenty minutes for optimal healing.
Next, put several drops of Emu oil on the tattoo. This oil is fantastic for tattoo aftercare because it contains loads of nutrients and essential fatty acids to help accelerate the healing process. In addition, the oil doesn’t clog pores; it supplies the skin with much needed moist, and it even decreases soreness induced by a new tattoo.
I strongly recommend that you use Emu oil a couple times a day right after finishing the cleaning procedure that I’ve described above. The healing process takes time. In my experience, a tattoo takes around 2 to 3 weeks to fully heal, so be patient, and don’t slack off with the cleaning process. If you need more tattoo aftercare tips, just ask your tattooist. He’ll sort you out for sure. If he can’t help you in this department, then you’re better off finding another tattoo shop!
